Arsenal fans were celebrating hours before their clash with Manchester United on New Year’s Day after rivals Tottenham Hotspur began the decade with a defeat.
Jose Mourinho’s side fell to a 1-0 loss against Southampton, with Danny Ings’ first-half strike proving to be the difference between the two sides.

Spurs, who have had a woeful record on the road over the past 12 months, have now kept just two clean sheets in their 21 Premier League games this season.
Arsenal made it four defensive shutouts following the 2-0 win over United, but prior to the clash, @PatrickTimmons1 shared this tweet regarding Spurs’ defensive record, which allowed these Gunners supporters to laugh at their expense.

Both sides have had their issues at the back in recent months, but the new decade seemed to bring about a new Arsenal under Mikel Arteta.
They looked so much more assured at the back against Manchester United, and hopefully, it’s a sign of things to come under the Spaniard.
Arsenal fans will be hoping that Tottenham’s defensive woes continue, and if they do, it might not be long until the Gunners catch their rivals in the standings.
