Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly been left frustrated by Arsenal’s decision to pursue Mikel Arteta.
While the former Napoli boss appears to be closing in on the Everton job, Italian journalist Fabio Santini claims that the Gunners were his preferred option.
As cited by Arena Napoli and Sport Witness, he said:
Carlo Ancelotti will go to Everton in the Premier League unless there are some sensational surprises. Within a few days, it could be official news. Ancelotti was disappointed because his first choice was Arsenal.
Ancelotti was heavily linked with Arsenal after being sacked at Napoli, but they’ve opted to pursue their former midfielder instead.

Ironically, it looks like Everton could be Arteta’s first game in charge this weekend. However, it is unclear at this stage if Ancelotti will be appointed in time for the game.

When you compare the two, they are two very different managers and it’s easy to see why the Gunners have opted for Arteta.
In their time of need, the current squad needs a coach who can galvanise them and offer them some form of identity. Traditionally, this is not something that Ancelotti has done in recent years.
Arteta has the opportunity to put his stamp on this Arsenal team and after learning his trade under Pep Guardiola, supporters should be excited about the football that could be on offer.
