Arsenal were consigned to a comprehensive 2-0 home defeat to reigning Premier League champions Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
The Unai Emery era began at the Emirates but, in truth, it was little more than a routine win for the visitors, as Pep Guardiola’s men cruised to a comfortable first win of the season.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring early on, as he fired a powerful shot beyond the reach of Petr Cech and into the back of the net.
City’s advantage was doubled in the second half, as Bernardo Silva was able to finish impressively to secure an important win for his side in style.
It was a difficult curtain-raiser for Emery and his side, who looked second best in large periods of the match. There’s certainly work to be done, as the Spaniard looks to impose his philosophy on proceedings in North London.
Nevertheless, we’ve delivered player ratings for Arsenal after their defeat.
