Mesut Ozil is in serious danger of missing Germany’s first game in the World Cup thanks to a knee injury which he picked up while playing in a friendly, according to reports.
Ozil started the 2-1 loss against Austria, and scored the opener in the match early on to put Germany ahead. However, he had to be brought off shortly after Austria gained the lead.
He has reportedly not trained with the squad for the past four days, and he did miss the last three games of Arsenal’s Premier League season due to injury.

This knee issue could limit his participation for Germany, if he features at all for the reigning World Cup champions.
It is believed that for Germany’s opening game against Mexico, Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan or Schalke’s Leon Goretzka will play instead of Ozil.
Germany face Mexico on June 17th, before facing Sweden six days later and then finally South Korea on June 27th.
Germany’s assistant manager, Thomas Schneider, said:
We expect him to challenge himself in training to build up his resilience. Mesut is always receiving treatment.
