As Arsenal prepare for their Europa League last 32 clash with Swedish minnows Ostersunds tomorrow, Arsene Wenger can only be dreaming of a return to Champions League football next season.
Eight points adrift of the top four, Arsenal seem marooned in sixth place and are unlikely to make up the deficit on the teams above them and their best route back into the Champions League appears to be by winning the Europa League this season, the same way Manchester United achieved that last season.
In the last two transfer windows, Arsenal have made aggressive moves in the market, breaking their transfer record twice on the signings of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang which is perhaps a sign that there is a new transfer policy in place which enables them to spend bigger.
