The most recent meeting between the two at Stamford Bridge came earlier in the season in September when the sides played out an exciting 0-0 draw.
Both sides came into the game in similar positions as they both sat just inside the top four prior to the game at the Bridge.
Chelsea have had the upper hand over the Gunners at home in recent years but failed to claim a victory on this occasion on what was a tight encounter.
The Gunners lined up strongly but couldn’t claim an away victory against their London rivals. It was a fixture which the Gunners had the better of the chances in and should have really of made their dominance pay to claim a rare victory away from home against the Blues despite some key players not starting the match.
The game became quite a nasty one in the second-half as the Gunners picked up three bookings, Mohamed Elneny, Héctor Bellerin, Sead Kolašinac whilst Alvaro Morata was booked for the Blues and David Luiz was dismissed after picking up two stupid yellow cards on a disappointing afternoon for the hosts.
Whilst, the type of competition is different Arsenal will need to really be at their best if they are to claim anything to take back with them to the Emirates for the second leg in a couple of weeks.
