The Rob Holding hype train has had a few untimely stops this season but the centre-back still has the trust of the manager and coaching staff and he’s looking to repay them with goals.
Holding played the full game in Belarus as Arsenal beat BATE Borisov 4-2 in the Europa League and the England U21 defender got himself on the scoresheet to boot.
The former Bolton starlet says that he’s happy to net his first goal for the club and he’s targeting at least five this season.
It’s a proud moment to score my first competitive goal.
I got one against Chivas last year on the tour, so to get my first competitive one I’m over the moon and the celebration showed it.
I’ve been feeling my own pressure to score my first goal. I’m due a goal and to get that now, hopefully I can go on and get some more.
I like to say five plus is a good return for a centre-half, I aim for that and if I get more than that then I’ll be more than happy.
Holding, 22, looks set for an increased role in the first team this season as the Gunners Plan on moving on from Per Mertesacker next summer with the German retiring to take up an academy role at the Emirates.
