Arsenal are trying to sign Newcastle midfielder Moussa Sissoko, according to The Express.
Arsene Wenger is looking to make use of Newcastle’s relegation and sign Sissoko for a cut-price of just £10 million. Such a price would come as a shock to current Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez. Sissoko had been one of Newcastle’s best players towards the end of the season, and has been one of their most consistent players in his three-and-a-half-years at Newcastle.
The France international would definitely provide some valuable depth as Arsenal have lost the trio of Mikel Arteta, Tomas Rosicky, and Mathieu Flamini, and could also lose Theo Walcott.

The Gunners can also be encouraged by the fact that Sissoko is having mix thoughts about rejoining Newcastle after they’ve fallen to the Championship. When asked if he was going to stay at St. James’ Park, this is what the player had to say.
It’s difficult to answer but I know this team and this club deserved to stay up. But we are in the Championship now so we need to do everything to try and come back for the next season because this club should normally be in the top 10 [of the Premier League]. This season was hard for everyone but we need to carry on and work hard for the season after.
Arsenal could be the perfect destination for the 26-year-old, who has often spoken up about his desire of playing with Europe’s elite teams in the Champions League. Arsenal are guaranteed a spot in the Champions League next season since they ended their campaign as runner-ups, right behind champions Leicester.
Due to Sissokho’s versatility and relatively low transfer fee, this could well be a wise transfer move for Arsenal.
