In the first match of Arsenal’s FA Cup title defence, they got drawn against Sunderland at the Emirates Stadium and made easy work of the visitors in a 3-1 win.
Youth-level standouts Alex Iwobi and Jeff Reine-Adelaide made their first competitive start and appearance, respectively, and there were plenty of phenomenal individual and team moments throughout the course of the 90 minutes. It started off shakily with a combination of errors from Kieran Gibbs and Laurent Koscielny in the first half leading to Sunderland’s only goal, but the Gunners roared back and won the match comfortably.
