Lazio could be set to move for Joel Campbell, according to Italian outlet Il Messaggero, the Rome side want to bring in the Costa Rican on a season-long loan deal for the 2015/16 season. Campbell has spent all summer being linked with yet another move away from the Emirates, and he could finally make that move to Serie A.
Campbell is allegedly viewed as a potential backup to German legend Miroslav Klose, who’s injured at the minute. Once he’s back fit, the 23-year-old former Olympiacos loanee is likely to be relegated to being a bench-warmer, but the South American will be hopeful he can displace the World Cup winner and earn a starting place for the Italian side.
The Costa Rican spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal in La Liga, playing 16 games for the club. He scored just once and returned to Arsenal at the end of the season. Arsene Wenger has admitted that he wants to keep Campbell, but the news is followed almost immediately with more intense rumours linking him away from the club, and he could soon end up at Lazio.
Palermo have also shown interest in the Costa Rican.
